20 Most Tragic WWE Deaths This Century

17. Luna Vachon (January 12, 1962 - August 27, 2010)

With her unique hairstyle, veins running down the side of her face, and her last name, Luna Vachon was one of he most unique characters in the history of wrestling. In a time when women were hired for their attractiveness, Luna stood out because she was rough, tough, and not afraid to get involved in matches. Being the adopted daughter of Butcher Vachon and the niece of Mad Dog Vachon made Luna desperately want to continue her family's legacy in the wrestling business. After being trained by Vivian Vachon and the Fabulous Moolah, Luna worked the Florida territories and worked alongside Kevin Sullivan during his Satanism gimmick. In 1993, Luna debuted for the WWF at Wrestlemania IX, managing Shawn Michaels before moving on to become the "main squeeze" of Bam Bam Bigelow. She competed in many mixed tag matches and was the first female to be a playable character in a WWF video game. She feuded with Alundra Blayze over the revived WWF Women's title, a rivalry which would continue for years. After stints in ECW and WCW, Luna returned to the WWF and began feuding with Sable. The animosity between the two was not limited to the ring as Vachon was annoyed by Sable's backstage attitude and lack of effort in the ring. As the WWF moved through the Attitude Era, Luna was concerned about the WWF pushing females based on sex appeal rather than their in-ring ability. Ultimately, this led to her departure in 2000 and Luna retired from the ring. Following her retirement, Luna faced a number of hardships in her personal life. She entered WWF-sponsored rehab for an addiction to medication and her house was destroyed by fire, causing the destruction of her wrestling memorabilia collection. Her addictions ultimately led to her death as Luna Vachon was found dead at the age of 48 after overdosing on oxycondon. She is buried on the property of her godfather, Andre the Giant.
