20 Most Unbelievable WWE Moments From 2016
14. Seth Rollins Returns...As A Heel?!
When Seth Rollins tore his knee last November, he hadn't even undergone the surgery yet and fans were anticipating his return to WWE as a babyface. Seth had already been planting the seed of a babyface turn and eventual program with Triple H, but the untimely injury caused those plans to be halted.
Rollins's vigorous rehab was filmed for a WWE 24 documentary to air on the WWE Network. This really showcased Seth's passion for the business and the amount of hard work he put in. Add to that the history of injured talents returning to massive babyface reactions and you had the makings of a top tier good guy.
So when Rollins returned at Extreme Rules to a huge pop only to resume his villainous role the next night on Raw, many couldn't believe it.
How could WWE screw this one up so badly? In the past WWE found ways to butcher seemingly unbutcherable (is that a word?) angles, but surely they knew what they had on their hands here, right?
They didn't and, despite all signs to the contrary, including their own babyface-building 101 technique of filming a documentary around his recovery, brought Seth back a heel. Needless to say, it didn't work out and the company eventually turned him face, albeit four months too late.
What could've been the next top superface for years to come is currently idling in the upper mid-card, struggling to receive mediocre reactions, and it's all because of WWE management. Unbelievable, indeed.
