As poor a choice as it was to bring Seth Rollins back as a bad guy, fans still expected Rollins to return at the top of the card. In his first pay-per-view match back since injuring his knee, Rollins defeated Roman Reigns, clean in the middle of the ring at Money In The Bank 2016, to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for a second time.

Reigns, who had shockingly failed a Wellness Policy test around the same time, was about to begin serving a 30-day suspension and WWE had to get the title off him. Rollins was the logical choice considering he had never lost the title. Seth's motto of Redesign, Rebuild, Reclaim was finally realized, but not for long.

Seconds after Rollins pinned Reigns, the winner of the evening's earlier Money In The Bank ladder match, Dean Ambrose, cashed-in his freshly won contract to become the third and final member of The Shield to wear the WWE Championship.

Heading into 2016, fans predicted that Roman Reigns would walk out of WrestleMania as the new WWE Champion. Also entering 2016, Seth Rollins was expected to return and regain the championship, another prediction that came true. What fewer fans expected this time last year was that Ambrose, after losing a feud to Kevin Owens over the Intercontinental Championship, would suddenly get elevated to the point of becoming WWE Champion.
