20 Most Underappreciated WWE Stars Of The 21st Century

4. MVP

When MVP debuted on Smackdown in 2006, he was a breath of fresh air - and while his "overpaid sports star gimmick" was missing something when he was only wrestling enhancement talents, he quickly proved his ring work was at an elite level when he started taking on the best of the best. Within a year, he had defeated Chris Benoit for the United States Championship, and he would go on to hold the title for more than 11 months.

Unfortunately, that proved to be the height of his WWE run. He turned face, but it was precipitated by an awful losing streak gimmick that ruined the momentum he had built up. A move to Raw looked like a potential catalyst for a real push, but that went nowhere quickly. Eventually, he requested his release from the company and was granted it.

MVP went on to find success elsewhere, but it was pretty ridiculous that WWE couldn't give him a real shot at the main event - he truly had all the tools.
