20 Must-See WCW Matches

2. Ricky Steamboat (c) Vs. Ric Flair – Clash Of The Champions VI (NWA Championship)

Wrestling historians have long debated just what is the greatest wrestling match of all time and it’s a debate that will never really have a definitive conclusion.

Depending on which era you were born in, stylistic preference and overall personal enjoyment, the answers vary wildly from person to person; however, for anyone that saw it, the Flair/Steamboat trilogy from 1989 is almost constantly included in the discussion.

While it would be quite easy to include all three bouts in this list, in the interest of variety we’ve consolidated their trilogy into just one entry by opting for the “2 Out of 3 Falls” match at Clash of the Champions VI. For sheer drama, suspense and work rate, this match is virtually flawless.

Lasting almost an hour in length, the match is a roller-coaster and the chemistry between the two is a sight to behold. Each stinging chop resonates through the screen and the selling from both men is impeccable. The match is veritable case study in storytelling for aspiring wrestlers worldwide.

The controversial finish may seem a tad clunky by today’s standards; however, in the context of the feud, it made perfect sense and was the driving force behind the necessity for their third encounter a month later at WrestleWar.

An Absolute classic.
