Aaron Stevens rose to prominence as a performer during his run as Damien Sandow, WWE's Intellectual Savior of the Masses, in 2012, but he was on WWE television long before that. Original wrestling under his real name, Stevens was signed by the company in 2002, and spent four years in developmental before eventually making his SmackDown debut in 2006.

Now working as Idol Stevens, he was introduced alongside the debuting KC James as one of Michelle McCool's "teacher's pets." The duo overcame Funaki & Scotty 2 Hotty in their debut match, before defeating WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick in a non-title match the following week, prompting a feud between the teams.

London & Kendrick brought-in Ashley Massaro to counteract McCool's impact as James & Stevens' manager, and the Teacher's Pets were unsuccessful in their quest to become champions. They were completely removed from the SmackDown roster when McCool suffered an injury a few months later, and while James held onto his contract for another two years, Stevens was released after returning to OVW in August 2007.
