The internet has been a wonderful gift to pro wrestling. It opened up the backstage curtain for many fans, allowing us to discover the real dramas of WWE's superstars. While this was greatly interesting to fans, it was like an absolute curse to Vince McMahon's WWE. The chairman has gone to great lengths over the years to keep the backstage private, as did Eric Bischoff in WCW. In Bischoff's book 'Controversy Creates Cash', he recounts one incident where WCW had a meeting, and just a short while later the details were on the internet. It was infuriating for the old school wrestling types who wanted to protect kayfabe. Nowadays, WWE are a lot more philosophical about the internet and backstage reporting. They now put quite a bit of backstage insight out there of their own volition. WWE's increased use of the internet to allow a peek behind the curtain is great for us fans. What we like most is when they use the net to publish previously unseen photos, offering us a visual glimpse into the backstage area. This is something no dirtsheet could ever do.
