20 Reasons Why WWE Fastlane 2019 Was An Absolute Mess

6. Face-Face-Heel

WWE got the dynamic in Mustafa Ali vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Kevin Owens all wrong.

Face-face-heel Triple Threats don't work. At all. The crowd don't have a clue what to do or who to root for, because they're used to the good guy being the underdog. Here, Ali and KO technically had the advantage, and while they didn't exactly wrestle like tag team partners, the fudged setup left them with a mountain to climb.

That Ali was able to turn the crowd's reactions around towards the end of the bout speaks to his power as a fiery babyface performer. Regardless, this bout's opening stages were all over the place, asking the question of why Ali was even added at all. You can't exactly turn a guy like that heel for the occasion, so why not save his title shot for a random episode of SmackDown instead? It's not like the rising star needs a big pay-per-view platform this early in his main roster run.
