20 Spookiest Ever Wrestling Characters

Witch doctors, escaped convicts, undead zombies, evil clowns and more...

Professional wrestling lends itself well to melodrama. The very definition of that word is, "a sensational, dramatic piece with exaggerated characters and exciting events intended to appeal to the emotions". Reading that sentence makes it clear the word goes hand-in-hand with the industry. Indeed, it almost reads like Vincent Kennedy McMahon's vision for what wrestling should be. Long before McMahon was dreaming about a grander plan for WWE, there were creepy characters in wrestling. Of course, there are those infamous ones that made a splash in the company. This article aims to explore 20 of the most prominent examples. Not all of these people went on to become WWF/WWE stars, but that doesn't invalidate their claims of being amongst the most scary to ever grace the ring. Many names will be familiar, but it could be in the ones many younger fans don't know about that the real spooky vibes sit. That fear of the unknown is what many of these names used during their careers. From shaman witch doctors and evil clowns, to those who follow the occult and others who threaten to carve opponents limb from limb, they're all here. There's no end to the spooky atmosphere surrounding these characters, and that's what makes them so perfect for examination during the Halloween season. There are even some choices thrown in out of left field, making this quite the menagerie of menace. This is definitely one of the spookiest collection of characters ever to be assembled!

20. Gene Snitsky

What better way to kick this list off than with a baby-kicking deviant who also happens to have a foot fetish? Gene Snitsky may not be the most immediate choice for wrestling fans discussing the most spooky, but he certainly had his moments. Debuting mainly to interfere in the ongoing romance saga between Kane, Lita and Matt Hardy, Snitsky caused Lita to have a miscarriage on his very first Raw appearance in 2004. During a match against Kane on the program, Snitsky hit his rival with a steel chair, causing him to topple onto the Diva. In storyline, this killed the child, which is definitely a harrowing angle for a wrestling show. According to the man himself, Snitsky was only supposed to work one night on Raw, specifically for the miscarriage story. WWE officials liked his performance so much that he was kept around. Later, the character would develop a love of women's feet. Not so strangely, this failed to get him over with the fans, who were utterly baffled by what creative were trying to achieve. Throughout his entire run, there was something unnerving about Gene Snitsky, especially when he formed a tag-team with John Heidenreich, another nut. Heidenreich specified that he liked what Snitsky 'did to babies', harking back to the miscarriage angle.
