20 Things We Learned From Joe Rogan's Podcast Interview With Jake Roberts

14. DDP Had Jake Worrying About Beyond The Mat Pre-Filming

The Resurrection Of Jake The Snake

When it was released, Barry Blaustein's film Beyond The Mat was called the 'movie Vince McMahon doesn't want you to see'. Nowadays, Jake Roberts wouldn't want anyone to clap eyes on it either. In his words, he was "burned pretty bad" by Blaustein's filmmakers, and regrets agreeing to be part of the eye-opening documentary at all.

Beyond The Mat is why, when Diamond Dallas Page said he wanted to make a film called 'The Resurrection Of Jake The Snake' and charter Roberts' rise from near-death to health, Jake was paranoid.

Having already been suckered in and hurt by the scathing glare of documentary cameras before, Roberts worried that he'd be putting himself in the same position all over again. DDP eased those fears by saying Jake would have complete control of every minute detail that made the final cut.

Page said he knew how badly Roberts had felt after watching Beyond The Mat back, and he didn't want to do anything other than make him feel good about himself for battling his demons.
