That wasn't the last phone call Trish would get from WWE staff.

In 2019, someone from the office called up her and asked if she'd like to work an autograph signing as part of SummerSlam weekend in Toronto. Stratus said she'd be delighted, and that's when the wheels started turning in her head. Instead of appearing as a legacy guest, the icon thought, what if she returned to the ring?

That innocent call from a WWE staffer hatched a fiendish plan in Trish's mind. She had toyed with the idea of "one more match" for a while, and thought her hometown would be the perfect place to call it a career. So, Trish picked up the phone herself and pitched a match with Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam.

WWE naturally loved the thought of it and quickly agreed. Vince McMahon reportedly fell off his seat with excitement when hearing Stratus' thoughts, and he couldn't wait to get started on the build towards the match.
