20 Things You Learn Watching WWE Since 1997

1. The Company Is Tasteless

If you've ever wondered why professional wrestling has the reputation of being filled with sleaze and appealing to the lowest common denominator, it's mostly Vince McMahon's fault. McMahon's personal preferences dictate what WWE airs, and some of those personal preferences are pretty damn disgusting.

It doesn't really matter if the company is PG or TV-14 - fans have seen HLA, necrophilia, immediate jokes at the expense of dead celebrities (or dead wrestlers, like Eddie Guerrero), and more racist angles and gimmicks than can be counted.

Currently, WWE is preparing to bring back Hulk Hogan, who was fired in 2015 after an audio recording of him going on a racist rant surfaced. Nothing's changed in the ensuing year and a half, but apparently, the company feels that people have forgotten, because Hogan will probably be back by WrestleMania.

Given that WWE donated millions of dollars to Donald Trump's candidacy and that Linda McMahon has a position on his cabinet, none of this is surprising. Still, it can be really hard to enjoy WWE at times, and as long as the McMahon family is in charge, that won't be changing.
