Like Nova, Kanyon has often being labeled as an innovator in the world of wrestling, due to his unique offense in the ring, often coming up with moves seemingly on the spot. He never became a World Champion, although he was a two-time WCW Tag Team Champion, one-time WCW United States Champion, and a one-time WWF Tag Team Champion, but as is the case with a lot of people in wrestling, they don't get the proper credit when they don't quite reach the top of the sport. On top of that, Kanyon made news when he came out as an openly gay man, albeit a couple years after he was released from his WWE contract and had faded into the background. It's rare when a man can come out as openly gay in the overly macho wrestling business, so he's a pioneer in that regard, even if he wasn't the first to do so. Were it not for his strong lisp, it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility to picture him as a bigger star. What he said in his promos was good, it's just that many feel his delivery was lacking due to the speech impediment. As a talented in-ring worker with plenty of innovation, and as someone who is a champion of the gay community, he is someone who fits the profile here as an unsung hero for what he did.
