20 Women WWE Need To Sign

1. Mercedes Martinez

Just like Cheerleader Melissa, Martinez's career would have been different had the women's evolution happened sooner. In 2006, she had a match on WWE Heat against Victoria, at a time when she didn't fit the Diva mold. 18 years into her career and she continues to plug away on the indie circuit establishing herself as one of the best in the world. Also, like Melissa she is a two-time Shimmer Champion and currently holds the Shimmer Tag Championship with her. Signing both will elevate the women's division.

On a positive note Martinez had impressive showings in both Mae Young Classics. In 2017 she made it all the way to the semi-finals before losing against former Shimmer ally and current NXT champ Shayna Baszler. In 2018, she was eliminated in the second round by Japanese legend Meiko Satomura, but their hard-hitting match was one of the highlights of the tournament. She has also wrestled a couple of others matches in NXT, so hopefully the WWE is considering her.

At 37 years of age, time may not be on her side, but Martinez can still go, and she deserves a proper WWE run before she retires. Her experience would help cultivate newer talent and, in the future, maybe she could join previous Shimmer alumnae in a trainer role.

Previously part of the music project Face and the No Credits. It was really terrible. Hopefully less terrible is my writings about music, wrestling and other subjects. Respect the luchador mask and $5 poncho!
