During his feud with Jeff Hardy, Punk once again regained a prominent position on the WWE roster. He would pick up and drop the World Heavyweight Championship throughout much of 2009. While his reigns were somewhat memorable, he'd make his biggest impact before the year was out. In November 2009, The Second City Saint debuted his group The Straight Edge Society. He became a cult-like and crazed leader as he promoted the benefits of abstaining from drinking and drug use. To augment his almost religious influence, Punk began to grow out his hair for a Jesus-like look while encouraging his followers to shed their locks for a fresh start. After terrorizing Rey Mysterio's family as a part of an engaging feud, the two had a match at Extreme Rules where Punk's luxurious locks were on the line. Mysterio came away victorious, and Punk followed in line with his bald Straight Edge Society, relegating him to the same status as them instead of the messiah he had claimed himself to be.
