17. The Deterioration Of The Straight Edge Society
While the concept of The Straight Edge Society was always a positive one, the way in which it was embodied, as mentioned, made its members far from role models. CM Punk recruited Diva Serena and Superstar Luke Gallows into his band of enforcers. The storyline was perfect for Punk, who truly lived a life free of alcohol and drugs. However, the irony of The Straight Edge Society became almost too much to bear. At one point in the midst of Punk's feud with Kane, Serena revealed in a storyline that she had broken her straight edge pact and had succumbed to alcohol. In reality, the Diva also had a drinking problem that ended her career in WWE. Joey Mercury filled in the gap that Serena left, but Gallows would next prove to be unreliable. Punk grew tired of Gallows' behavior and excommunicated him from the group. Gallows joked that he would start drinking. He too was told good luck on his future endeavors. While Mercury never quit, Punk moved on.
