14. Triple H Interjecting As Special Referee In The Match At SummerSlam 2011
Once Punk returned, instead of receiving kingly treatment, WWE acted as though nothing had happened. During Punk's short time away, John Cena had stepped in and claimed to be the WWE Champion. The Second City Saint never lost the title though and insisted that he had a right to the gold. The real heat wasn't with Cena though, but rather with Triple H. Before coming back to WWE, Punk had made San Diego Comic Con his promo stage, calling out the COO. As the match was set for SummerSlam 2011 between Punk and Cena, Triple H decided to involve himself. The bout wasn't a Triple Threat, but rather, Trips was the special guest referee. In the end, it hardly mattered what happened between Cena and Punk. Alberto Del Rio would sneak in and take Punk's undisputed title with his Money in the Bank contract. Although Punk would hold onto significant gold again, losing the title left him flapping in the breeze for some time.
