20 Wrestlers You Totally Forgot Held WWE Championships

2. Bertha Faye (Women's Champion)

Bertha Faye had been wrestling for 16 years by the time she arrived in WWE in 1995. Women’s wrestling was in the gutter, and along with the likes of Bull Nakano, Faye was charged with reviving the division’s ailing fortunes. She’d already established herself as a strong worker in Puerto Rico and Japan, but she was grossly misused in America.

Once a dominant power wrestler, Faye became a joke with WWE. Portrayed as Harvey Wippleman’s overweight, trailer park-dwelling girlfriend, she was never taken seriously by management, and fans struggled to accept her as a result.

That’s not to say her disappointing WWE run wasn’t without highlights, though. At SummerSlam 1995, Faye defeated the esteemed Alundra Blayze to become WWE Women’s Champion, but she struggled to hold onto it. Blayze regained the belt 57 days later, and Faye wasn’t long for the company: she quickly grew tired of her gimmick, and was granted an early release in 1996.
