20 WTF WCW Moments

19. Sting Is Attacked By Dogs

Engaged in a brawling bout opposite Rick Steiner, Sting's experience at The Great American Bash in 1999 was almost comical. Known as 'The Dog-Faced Gremlin', Steiner's nickname was taken literally by WCW top brass. The creative team must have thought they were piecing together a brutal segment for the annual Pay-Per-View, but instead fans laughed at how lame it was. Luring Sting backstage, Steiner had both Tank Abbott and Scott Steiner waiting on his rival. Scott elected to set a pair of fierce dogs on the Stinger, but the resultant attack did more harm than good for the credibility of the match. The dogs were supposed to look like they were mauling Sting, but they seemed more playful than anything else. The pre-taped skit was horribly edited, a hallmark of WCW during this time period. Far from coming across like a nefarious stunt orchestrated by the heels, the whole ordeal just confused the fans in attendance. There's a popular saying, 'never work with children or animals'. Sting - and WCW - found that out the hard way.
