20 WWE And UFC Controversies Created By Brock Lesnar
5. Getting A Title Shot In The UFC In His Third Fight For The Promotion
Many people forget how controversial Brock Lesnar really was in the UFC. Hardcore MMA fans hated him, because he was a "fake" fighter. Half of those didn't know about how good he was in college, although once he started winning, they would point to that and say "well he wasn't just a pro wrestler you know!" as if some sort of excuse was needed for him winning fights. Lesnar's first title shot, however, might have been his most controversial UFC moment of all. Prior to joining the UFC, Brock Lesnar took one MMA fight, in HERO's, which he won. He then debuted against Frank Mir - the toughest debut fight you can possibly realistically get in the UFC - and nearly won the bout. Despite the loss it was clear he had potential. He then got Heath Herring, right at the end of Herring's career. Herring was a known guy, not a can, but past his prime. Lesnar won the fight with ease. And was then granted a title shot against the legendary Randy Couture. It is that fast-tracking that rubbed many the wrong way: go 1-1 in the UFC and get a title shot? Even in a thin heavyweight division, that was rare. It turned out to be the right move, but at the time, it was a huge point of contention with fans.
