20 WWE Retirements That Meant Absolutely Nothing

5. Roddy Piper (1987)

Yes, you read that right. Roddy Piper€™s first €œretirement€ match was in 1987, at Wrestlemania III to be exact. He faced, and defeated, Adrian Adonis in a hair vs. hair match. It was billed as Piper€™s retirement match as he was leaving the world of wrestling to join the world of acting, much like The Rock did in 2004, only not fully announcing he was retired. Unlike The Rock, Piper€™s film career didn€™t take off to the heights he expected it to. He made They Live, which is a sci-fi cult classic, but never drew the box offices that he expected to. Roddy returned to the WWF two years later at Wrestlemania V in his famous Piper€™s Pit segment with Morton Downey, Jr., and returned to wrestling full-time later in 1989. Piper has been wrestling in the WWE as recently as 2009.
