Christian debuted on WWE television in September of 1998 at the Breakdown: In Your House Pay-Per-View, costing Edge his match against Owen Hart. The following month at Judgment Day: In Your House, Christian defeated Taka Michinoku to win the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship. During these first few appearances, the first thing fans noticed when they looked at the young Canadian wrestler was his bright blonde hair.

Strikingly similar to fellow newcomers Edge and Gangrel, the trio eventually joined together as The Brood with long blonde hair seemingly a requirement. Plus, it looked good with a little blood on it, a necessity for any potential member of the vampire-type group.

While Christian would eventually cut his hair several years later, WWE had actually wanted him to do it sooner.

During his association with the UnAmericans group, alongside Test and Lance Storm, both Christian and Test were asked to cut their hair off as a sign of solidarity amongst the UnAmericans since WWE believed it would help the group's marketability. Christian refused but eventually cut it off in 2003.
