20 WWE WrestleMania Matches We Almost Got (And Why We Didn't)
9. Triple H vs. AJ Styles - WrestleMania 37
At WrestleMania 31, one of the biggest names in WWE history fought one of the biggest names in WCW history. 6 years later, one of the biggest names in TNA history fought for a similar match.
Triple H fought Sting in a nostalgic throwback match, which turned out a lot better than many expected considering the age of the two. And since AJ Styles was still very capable of delivering 4-5 Star matches against anyone, he wanted to try his skills against the Game.
When WrestleMania season rolled around, Styles began to pitch a match against Hunter (mainly because a match against Edge was off the table). He would apparently pester the man himself constantly, the same as he did with the Undertaker the year before.
Why didn't it happen?
While Triple H was still in good condition to wrestle that year, he was also bogged down with running NXT and simply had no time to indulge in a match against the Phenomenal One.
Sadly, Hunter suffered a cardiac event later in the year and, although he recovered, his in-ring career is uncertain. A shame, as Styles ended up in a tag team title match with Omos at Mania instead.
