Triple H wasn't the only man Austin had on the books for WrestleMania X8. After the kybosh was put on the Two-Man Power Trip imploding, the new plan was for the Rattlesnake to take on the leader of the nWo, Hollywood Hulk Hogan in a clash of two undisputed icons of the wrestling business.

Following the underwhelming Invasion angle, Hogan, Scott Hall & Kevin Nash returned to the Fed in an attempt of hostile takeover. A feud between Hogan and Austin seemed to write itself as during 2002's No Way Out, Hogan cost Austin an Undisputed title match against Chris Jericho and, after a beatdown, sprayed the nWo logo on Austin's back.

Both Austin and the Rock feuded with the trio and both men fought a member of the faction at WrestleMania.

Why didn't it happen?

There was apparently heat between the two men and the word at the time was neither wanted to do the job for the other, though as previously mentioned, Austin wasn't happy in the company at this point in time. Because of the lack of animosity between Hogan & the Rock, that was the match booked and Stone Cold was stuck with Hall, which caused him to take a break from the company shortly after WrestleMania.
