On the June 14 Smackdown, Daniel Bryan became the first wrestler to get a pin or submission on The Shield. It was the first formal loss since the faction's debut six months earlier. By forcing Seth Rollins to submit, he proved that he had WWE's backing as a future star. Just seeing The Shield getting defeated was a WTF, but for it to be Daniel Bryan as the conqueror, that was even more surprising. Bryan was a man on the rise, there had been a real tidal shift in how fans were viewing him, as well as how the company were booking him. The Shield had been one of WWE's biggest priorities, and by going over them, Bryan now stood out for a summer that would change his life.
