Vince blew minds worldwide on the March 26, 2001 episode of Raw, where three days after purchasing the ailing WCW for a mere $5 million, he appeared simultaneously on Raw and Nitro to gloat about his victory and let both the WCW fans and talent know that the fate of the company rested in his hands. Of course, this led to the famously underwhelming Invasion storyline, in which WCW teamed up with an also-defunct ECW to form the Alliance, teaming up to try and take down the WWE. The angle was criticised for countless reasons: making the WCW/ECW talent look weak, focusing too much on the McMahons and missing a number of marquee WCW names, but most of all, it simply failed to live up to the massive potential, which is honestly even more WTF than the fact Vince was able to buy them in the first place. How WCW went from kicking WWE 's a** in the ratings to being bought for a relative pittance and then fizzling out after an underwhelming angle in a few short years is just shocking.
