The much revered Attitude Era only ran for three of Raw's twenty-two years. It kicked off in late 1997, but only truly arrived with Stone Cold Steve Austin's title victory at WrestleMania 14 in March 1998. It then wasn't until 1999 that the era fully matured, with stars like Mick Foley, The Rock and Triple H earning main event status. There was further success in 2000, before an unceremonious end in 2001 when Stone Cold Steve Austin turned heel at WrestleMania 17. Despite the brevity of those three years, the influences of the time were heavily imprinted on the fifteen years that followed. Even outside of WWE, the concept for episodic wrestling is now the given formula for the industry.
