Earl Hebner completely betrays his apparent status as an all-timer referee by failing to make the most blatantly obvious refereeing call in recent wrestling history. James Storm gets a chair and wedges it in between the two turnbuckles, but rather than remove the chair ASAP, he simply stands by while Abyss and Storm brawl, ending with Storm being shoved head-first into the chair. Rather than disqualify Abyss, he then allows Abyss to grab his iconic 2x4 with nails stuck in it, Janice, and attempt to kill Storm with it, before Storm grabs a beer bottle from under the ring and tries to hit Abyss, but Hebner just confiscates it. How the match didn't end up as a no contest is anyone's guess, but it looked ridiculously nonsensical on TV.
