The Undertaker and Edge first battled in the main event of WrestleMania XXIV, but their feud continued through the subsequent months. Edge defeated The Undertaker at One Night Stand, forcing him out of WWE, but Vickie Guerrero reinstated the Phenom when she discovered that Edge was cheating on her.

The final encounter between the two was set for SummerSlam, and this time, it would be a Hell in a Cell match.

Edge dominated in the early goings of the match, using weapons (specifically tables, ladders, and chairs) to lay waste to the Phenom, but The Undertaker fought back and both men broke through the cage, spilling to the outside. The Undertaker kept the upper hand, chokeslamming Edge through two stacked tables and then, finally, putting him down for the three count with a Tombstone Piledriver.

After the bout, The Undertaker took Edge up a ladder and chokeslammed him off. Edge broke through the ring, and flames shot up from the hole in the canvas.
