25 Greatest Matches In WWE SummerSlam History
1. Bret Hart Versus Owen Hart, SummerSlam 1994
After Owen Hart defeated Bret Hart cleanly in WrestleMania X's opening match, he became a star. Not only did the clean upset come completely out of the blue, but the match was one of the finest in WWE history. When Bret won the WWE Title later that same night, it was clear that Owen had earned himself a shot at the belt, and a rematch would be needed.
For the entire 32 minutes of the bout, Owen tried to escape. He avoided his brother, scaled the cage, and clawed his way toward the door when he could, only worried about capturing the WWE Championship. Bret managed to keep Owen inside, whether he had to pull him back in by the hair or superplex him from the top of the cage.
They traded Sharpshooters and finally climbed over the top together, but when Bret slammed Owen's head into the cage, the younger Hart slipped and caught his leg between the bars. Bret was then able to hop down to the floor while a tangled Owen looked on angrily.
It was not only the greatest match in SummerSlam history, but it was one of the best matches ever held in one hundred-plus years of pro wrestling.
