Triple H and The Rock spent the majority of 2000 feuding -- they clashed at WrestleMania in a four-way match, at Backlash with Shane McMahon as special referee, at Judgment Day in an Iron Man match, and at King of the Ring in a six-man tag.

It was no surprise that they would also do battle at SummerSlam, but this time, rising star (and King of the Ring winner) Kurt Angle would be part of the match.

Triple H attacked Angle before the match, attempting to Pedigree him through the announcers' table, but the table broke and Angle, who suffered a concussion, was taken to the back. The Rock and HHH battled, with Stephanie McMahon attempting  to interfere on behalf of her husband, but accidentally hitting him with the WWE Title.

Angle returned to rejoin the bout, attacking Triple H, and in the confusion, The Rock was able to pin The Game, retaining the belt.
