Avid readers of wrestling autobiographies knew about the legitimate animosity that existed between Mick Foley and Ric Flair. In 1999's Have a Nice Day!, Foley criticized Flair's tenure as booker for WCW during the 1990s. In response, Flair characterized Foley as a "glorified stuntman" in To Be The Man. The two had a verbal confrontation at a Raw in 2003, but patched things up to the point of working a program together in 2006.

The program, of course, wasn't based on pride or conflict -- it was based on rehashing what the men had said about each other in their books. They battled at SummerSlam 2006 in an "I Quit" match in which Mick Foley was accompanied by former MNM valet Melina. Avid readers of Foley's web columns were familiar with his friendship with Melina, and so when Flair threatened the diva with a barbed wire bat, they understood Foley quitting. Less voracious readers, however, were baffled by the whole thing.

Like most storylines that mix real-life with wrestling angles, the whole thing was underwhelming. To make matters worse (and more ridiculous), Melina turned on Foley days later.
