25 Things You Didn't Know About John Cena
12. His Toilet Break Saved Someone’s ‘Mania Moment
One can only imagine the pressure backstage during WrestleMania. It's been WWE's most important production each year since launching in 1985, and the production budget has ballooned to insane amounts in the modern era. Today, 'Mania is big, big, big business, and it requires laser focus to pull off behind the scenes. Timing is obviously one of the most important aspects, because everything has to slot in neatly or else.
Brodus Clay was likely bummed out behind the curtain at 'Mania XXVIII. He'd just been told that his dancing segment (with 'his momma') was going to be cut from the format due to time constraints. That's when a passing John Cena leaned in and whispered to Brodus that he was heading to the bathroom and might take a little longer than management wanted him to before working The Rock in the main event.
Basically, Cena was ensuring that Clay still got to work his segment right before the headline bout. His plan? Be posted missing from Gorilla as producers/agents/officials/higher ups searched for their prized asset, meaning they'd need to press ahead with the Brodus stuff whether they (or The Undertaker!) wanted to or not.
Fans wouldn't have missed all the dancing, but John realised that it was a big deal to Clay personally, and it didn't sit well with him to think of the walking cartoon character missing out on his moment. So, he conveniently went for the most stress-inducing poo WrestleMania has ever seen.
Somehow, that poop still received 3 stars and was deemed better than a 12-man tag match that had gone on earlier. What a manoeuvre!
