25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2022
21. Wardlow's TNT Title Run
Wardlow was once one of the hottest names in AEW. After suffering years of being undermined and belittled by MJF, Mr. Mayhem finally saw the light and turned on Maxwell at Revolution 2022. Handing CM Punk Max's Dynamite Diamond Ring, it was a star-making moment that caught fire even more in subsequent weeks. Watching Wardlow maim tens of AEW security guards to try and get to MJF every week like an unarmed John Wick was superb television.
This all culminated in Wardlow giving MJF the biggest ass-kicking of his career to date, courtesy of ten powerbombs, at Double or Nothing. He then captured his first championship two months later, winning the TNT Title from Scorpio Sky on the 6th July episode of Dynamite in a Street Fight. Wardlow was still red-hot in the eyes of the audience, but his booking for the rest of the year was diabolical.
Wardlow's title defences before losing the belt to Samoa Joe in November came against Jay Lethal, Ryan Nemeth, Tony Nese, Brian Cage, Matt Taven, and Ari Daivari, with Orange Cassidy being the only exception to this rotten line-up of opponents. AEW had spent around two years building Wardlow, only to give him this dog-awful championship run. What an enormous waste of momentum this was.
