25 Years Of WWE Raw Mistakes

22. 1996 - The Federal Turner Commission Hearings (March 18th)

Shane McMahon Vince McMahon
WWE

Vince McMahon's hypocritical vendetta against Ted Turner had spiralled out of control by the time the company mocked up a 'Few Good Men' parody to beat the gag into the ground

Long after the broad funnies had ceased hitting the mark as they had in the original vignette, the scripting called for Turner's actions to go beyond the pale as part of a wider character assassination of the man. 'Billionaire Ted' certainly wasn't impervious to criticism of his practices, but the fact these catcalls were coming direct from Vince McMahon only highlighted the WWE gaffer's rampant insecurity.

Turner screaming about his determination to put WWE out of business ended the skit, but a lengthy and drab explanation about a the Federal Trade Commission's investigation of the impending Turner/Time Warner merger ended the show.
