One of the biggest WWF feuds of the 1980s was Greg Valentine vs. Tito Santana, with the two often doing battle over the Intercontinental Championship.

Santana's second reign as IC Champ saw him defending the belt against his long-time rival in a July 1985 steel cage match. Whilst Santana would make it out of the match as the winner, his title belt itself didn't fare too well.

In no-good heel fashion, Valentine didn't take the defeat all too well and so would end up destroying the title after the match, essentially sticking two fingers up to the current and previous holders of the Intercontinental Championship.

Of course, this was all part of an angle designed to introduce a new design for the IC title. In fact, it was this facelift that ushered in what many fans deem to be the "classic" design of the Intercontinental Title.
