3 Ups & 10 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Sept. 6)

2. Women’s Cringeworthy Angles Advance

On the one hand, it’s good that WWE is paying attention to more than just one women’s wrestling storyline at a time right now. But on the other hand, if the storylines all suck, is that really an improvement?

Consider Charlotte Flair going from dealing with an uncooperative Nia Jax to the supernatural Alexa Bliss (and Lilly), having to deal with spooky boll*cks and other nonsensical crap rather than an actual, sensible wrestling program. Bliss has been content to be a childlike sorcerer on the sidelines for months on end, but now she suddenly really wants the title (yes, we know she had a match against Asuka way back when).

Then you have Doudrop (uggh) and Eva Marie, with Doudrop telling us that she jumped Eva because she has a tendency to get out of competing in matches (true) and that she wasn’t letting her get away last week. But we had to hear about the Eva-lution and how it really was going to be the Doudrop-lution… because why the hell not? It’s either an era or an evolution in WWE, not just “I want to beat you up because you wronged me and I’m getting revenge.”

This is to say nothing of Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler finally imploding, or Rhea Ripley forming a tag team with Nikki A.S.H., or the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions losing a nontitle match again.

Maybe we should trot Stephanie McMahon out to take credit for the women’s evolution again, and everyone can boo her and throw stale beer at her.
