3 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE NXT UK (1 April)

1. Turner's Debut Falls Flat

We’ll start off by mentioning that bringing Stevie Turner (formerly Bobbi Tyler on the British indie circuit) into NXT UK as a full-time roster member is a good move by all accounts.

Her first match in the brand, though? It wasn’t great.

Facing Aoife Valkyrie, the match felt sloppy and slow in most places, making a less-than-five minute encounter feel four times the length it actually was. A barrage of rest holds plagued the match massively, as did Turner’s lacklustre attempt at the Penta el Zero Miedo corner backstabber spot. She executed it well, but it was just far too slow when compared to what we’ve seen of the Death Triangle man.

Valkyrie got the win with her top-rope axe kick following a series of chops that would make WALTER turn in his grave. They weren’t convincing anyone; sorry, Aoife.

Valkyrie (and, maybe one day, Turner) could be a huge star within NXT UK’s women’s division. She needs to get past this stage first. The Irish standout has been with the brand for well over a year now, yet it feels as if she’s still in that ‘oh, she’s new, let’s book her to win’ phase. Great for the win-loss records, not so much for the week-to-week viewing.
