3 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Rampage (Feb 23 - Results & Review)

Downs...

4. Totally Numb To This Now

The opening three-team trios match was indicative of AEW's core issues.

It was just this promotion's latest spotty spotfest with no real sense of purpose. Nobody sold a thing, and it's clear Tony Khan needs to move away from these kinds of bouts for a while. He can always come back to them here or there, but they're really boring now. That's a problem, because they're supposed to be anything but!

Even Matt Menard on commentary said: 'Somebody get a pinfall, I'm begging ya!". That sums it up. Workers in these matches perform a lot of flashy moves without much substance; it's also senseless, 'cause they mean nothing if those taking the hits don't bother to sell them for longer than 3-5 seconds.

Yours truly watched this match around an hour or so ago, and he had to think hard about exactly who was in it. That...isn't good. Where's the pacing and the drama? Endless loops of risky dives over the top rope to the floor don't count as drama, especially when they're about as effective as an airplane spin.
