3 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Rampage: Fight For The Fallen (Aug 18)

2. What Was This?

Sammy Guevara
AEW

Attention, Mr. Khan: Sammy Guevara does not need squash matches. Why the f*ck would anyone look at his body of work and think he's ideal for this kind of spot? The dude's strengths are fighting from underneath against bigger guys, or showing out the longer a match goes on. He's lost as a squash artist.

This was such useless TV, and it did sod all for Sammy.

Squashes should be used to showcase a powerhouse (like AEW did with Hobbs and Wardlow a while back), or facilitate a meaningful change/upturn in someone's career (like The Street Profits over on WWE's side). Guevara dispatched Jon Cruz in 90 seconds on Friday, and nobody cared.

This isn't the start of some Goldberg-esque streak for Sammy, so who gives a toss about short squashes? They don't suit his style, and actually cheat fans out of seeing him work a lengthier match that does. What a senseless idea it was to have him mow down Cruz.
