3 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Rampage (Jan 12 - Results & Review)

Ups...

3. JR’s Commentary

Jim Ross JR AEW Rampage

Listen (cheers, Max Caster), hearing Jim Ross on the call is a luxury these days.

It's never a given that JR will be involved on TV due to serious health problems the legend has going on off screen. Being brutally honest, some of his AEW work over the years has been rough, but the iconic announcer was perky and well up for some Rampage this week. That's good news.

Jim wasn't there to phone it in either. He added a ton to the broadcast, and especially seemed to enjoy the opener between Eddie Kingston and Wheeler Yuta. That's likely because those guys paced themselves and left gaps for commentary to fill fans in on key facts and analysis about them, their recent work and what's coming next.

JR thrives in such situations. Few announcers have as keen an eye for when to add context and when to let others take the lead. Health issues and clear product grumbles aside, Ross remains a joy to listen to when he's on form like he was this week.

Long may that continue.
