3 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Rampage (Oct 27 - Results & Review)

Downs...

4. It Means Nothing (Sadly)

Abadon Anna Jay
AEW

Look, everyone worked real hard in the four-way to crown a new contender for Hikaru Shida's AEW Women's Title, but there's a huge flaw in the way Tony Khan books this stuff. Abadon coming out of nowhere to win just because All Elite fancies scripting a one-off Halloween-themed "Fright Night' match on Collision is not the way to go.

Abadon vs. Shida is already an afterthought long-term and it hasn't even happened yet, and one could say that about far too many AEW title matches. They're far too frequent, and there's rarely any sustained build towards many of the midcard or Women's Title ones.

Booking sudden number one contenders then racing through a title bout is no substitute for storytelling. Sorry, but it just isn't. It says everything that the post-Julia Hart mist angle going on between Skye Blue and Willow Nightingale is way more interesting than Abadon.

She's barely been on TV!
