3 Ups & 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Feb 13)

2. Pancaked

It was Pancake Day yesterday, so of course WWE shoehorned a goofy griddlecake-themed segment into the show, and given The New Day's recent infatuation with said breakfast food, they were always going to star.

The scene opened with the trio hitting the ring, announcing Big E's attempt to eat over 100 pancakes in the ring. So far, so harmless, but it soon went south. Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin came out, spitting terrible lines about how The New Day should stick to the pancake business and leave the wrestling to them. Then, Gable totally BURNED the babyfaces by questioning their skills as bakers, before Shelty cut even deeper, DESTROYING The New Day with a cutting Shrek quotation ("from now on, we're eating waffles."). Take that, geeks.

The promos were as cringe-worthy as they sound, and while the ensuing match looked great on paper, they didn't deliver. Gable and Benjamin lost in just over five minutes, and their recent run of inconsistent in-ring performances continued, with the duo struggling to muster anything cohesive against Big E and Kofi Kingston.

Complete and utter crêpe.
