3 Ups & 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Feb 13)

2. At Least The Match Was Good...

Complaints regarding the booking aside, Baron Corbin vs. Kevin Owens was a rock solid midcard match that painted 'The Lone Wolf' in a positive light, despite ongoing concerns over his control segments.

Like Sarah Logan early in the show, 'Big Banter' struggled to draw any kind of reaction while working heat on KO. He has a couple of flashy signatures, but the bulk of his moveset is too basic to draw fans in, and his personality isn't strong enough to compensate. This means that his dominant periods often drag, as was the case last night.

Owens is occasionally guilty of this himself, of course, but Corbin's lack of engagement wasn't enough to spoil the bout entirely. The duo worked a steady clip with a textbook back-and-forth format, including a fun closing stretch featuring a Deep Six, Superkick, and End Of Days.

Corbin will now compete for the WWE Title at Fastlane. It's an interesting move, as he'd done little to warrant the shot prior to last night, but there's still three weeks' of TV to go prior to the pay-per-view. WWE have plenty of time to heat him up.
