3 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Rampage (April 22)
Downs...
5. Hitting The Repeat Button
Last week, The Butcher smashed Barrett Brown to set up a clash with Wardlow on Dynamite. That was fine as a one-off, but AEW decided to repeat the trick on Friday. They had Lance Archer plough through Serpentico in just over 30 seconds as Shawn Spears gushed on commentary.
Rinse and repeat.
Tony Khan should be wary of repetition, especially when the end results are going to be the same. Is it a problem that they're setting up roadblocks for Wardlow in front of MJF? Hardly, but at least come up with creative ways to do that. These squashes will get old fast if he who must not be named by the heels keeps winning.
One must also question the purpose of using someone like Archer in this spot. The Butcher was forgivable - he's a tag-team guy, and has never really been pushed. Big Lance is different, so this is a sketchy position for him to be in.
