3 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE NXT UK Prelude (8 April)
1. Suplex Millie Flops
So this was odd. Hyped up as the official in-ring debut for the newly-rechristened Emilia McKenzie, the former Millie and Meiko Satomura were victorious over Kay Lee Ray and Isla Dawn. The right result with the right lady getting the pinfall – McKenzie – over the right person – Dawn – but it just feel flat.
Despite being the supposed new beginning for Emilia, this felt far more like a rehash of Satomura and Ray’s rivalry. It was those two who get in their offence more than anyone else, with NXT UK’s ‘Final Boss’ using both her overhead kick and Saito suplex, while KLR performed a Gory Bomb at one stage. McKenzie’s biggest highlight here was hitting a weak Spear.
To go back to the opening paragraph – yes, Emilia McKenzie did pin Isla Dawn. But she did so via a rollup, which came as a counter to Isla’s attempted suplex. Not exactly the strong performance you need ahead of a presumed Women’s Championship challenge.
For what it’s worth, the match wasn’t entirely bad and did have its moments, but it was let down hugely by this. Not good.
