3 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE SmackDown (9 Oct - Results & Review)
1. Not Much Of A Main Event
Final 'Down' time, and maybe a slightly surprising one.
It was actually Raw GM Adam Pearce who made the main event between Trick Williams and Bron Breakker for SmackDown. He did so right at the top of the night because he was ticked off that Nick Aldis had booked some of his roster in the first place. Somewhat strangely, Pearce was wearing a blue suit and Aldis a red one. Hey, at least the days of wrestlers wearing red and blue depending on which brand they're tied to seem to have vanished. About time!
Trick vs. Bron was interesting in theory (not Austin Theory), but they weren’t given much of a chance to do anything special in SmackDown’s headliner. Some brawling kicked things off, then both went to a disqualification finish when The Vision ran in. After that, we got some Money In The Bank preamble from dudes like Je'Von Evans and Penta before The Vision stood tall to close thanks to Bronson Reed.
It was a pretty dull conclusion to the show, and not the best lead-in to MITB either. You just know that Lafayette was bummed out when they chanted Oba Femi's name but didn't see him rush out to put a stop to Reed's domination too. For further proof supporting the 'they ran out of time' argument, just watch cameras fade to black before Bronson went for a second Tsunami too.
Perhaps that's the best way to frame it: SmackDown's main event match was messy and disjointed. It was certainly nowhere near as strong as the hype for the women's ladder match, or even as a promo involving CM Punk, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens earlier.
