3. Painful ‘Comedy’

On their own, Joe Hendry and Danhausen are capable of delivering genuinely funny moments and being comedic assets to WWE programming, the “entertainment” in “sports entertainment," but pairing them up Monday night somehow cancelled out their individual humor.

Their concert was a completely unfunny, groan-inducing embarrassment. After a couple of decent lines, Hendry and Danhausen did some “dancing” before launching into a song that just mashed up their two catchphrases into “I believe that you are cursed,” which they repeated ad nauseum while the LA Clippers dance squad performed in front of the ring.

Make no mistake, this was terrible before boxer Ryan Garcia attacked Hendry with a guitar shot. Adding him made it worse in hindsight, and then the Judgment Day brawled with the Minihausens, because of course they did.

Getting beyond Monday’s mini-disaster, WWE is really running the risk of flanderizing and overexposing Danhausen by featuring him so prominently and often on their programming. The character works well in limited doses, so his shtick doesn’t wear thin and allows time for fans to both anticipate and miss him.

Instead, WWE seems hellbent on squeezing all the toothpaste out of the tube as quickly as possible, as though the expiration date is fast approaching and they need to get everything they can out of the Danhausen character.
