3 Ups & 8 Downs From WWE Raw (April 5)

7. High Times On Raw

When Rob Van Dam was flying high on Raw nearly 20 years ago, it was common for the future WWE Hall-of-Famer to make a bunch of not-so-veiled marijuana references.

The difference between that and the poor man’s version we got on Monday night from Riddle was that RVD was a serious character and wrestler who won matches and feuds, and wasn’t some bad caricature of a stoner. Riddle, however, is the living embodiment of every bad stoner trope. And we got to see more of it on Monday night.

Riddle was chatting with New Day backstage and commented on how high Kofi Kingston was when Omos press-slammed him (get it?) and then commenting on how his opponent later on (Mustafa Ali) was sticky and he needed to grind him down – another marijuana reference. You see, Riddle likes to get toasted, so all he can do is make these goofy references while being a goof himself, losing matches and being regarded by other characters as an annoying idiot.

And Riddle is the babyface here.

He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
