3 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Jan 17)
1. King's Retort
Throughout the show, WWE hyped a "King's Court" segment - a talk show hosted by Jerry Lawler and featuring an exclusive interview with Dolph Ziggler. When the time came, Lawler questioned Dolph about his new attitude, telling him that he's "always been a nice guy," and finally showing him a video of his loss last week - which proved that being a bad guy didn't get him anywhere.
It was obvious where this was headed. Dolph never replied and turned to leave, but when Lawler called him back, Dolph had his own video to show. He put up footage from September of 2012, when he gave Lawler repeated elbow drops in a match. Later that evening, Lawler suffered a heart attack that almost killed him.
Dolph said that Lawler always blamed him for the heart attack (which kind of goes against the "nice guy" thing), and then said he should. He threatened to finish the job, all the while talking really slowly like a Chris Jericho knockoff. Eventually Lawler mouthed off again, so Dolph gave him a Superkick in the chest and headed for the hills. With help from JBL, Lawler got up and challenged Dolph to return, but no dice.
Tom Phillips then took over, using the kind of serious voice WWE typically reserves for real-life tragedies. Then, still in serious mode, he hyped a preview for the new xXx movie. If you like plausibility or angles that build to actual matches, you probably weren't a fan of this junk.
